My first visit with the Oncologist

After calling the Doctor and getting a referral to an oncologist as a new patient, we headed over for my first appointment with someone that specialises with cancer. He's located at his clinic in Jackson TN. He met with us and got a basic workup done which included basic vitals lengthy written evaluation, blood and urine work, and he ordered a CT of my Chest and Throat. He was very impressive, had great people skills and seemed very knowledgeable. I was particularly impressed by his University of Tennessee lapel pin that he seemed to ware with pride. The office is very modern and easy to navigate, I say this because it's also much larger than your typical doctors office. Before we left he made one last decision. He ordered a needle biopsy to be done the next day at the Hospital. He decided to have them biopsy one of the enlarged lymph nodes in my stomach. We were to come back at the end of the week for the results.

1st Diganoses of Cancer

I Arrived at the Emergency Department at Jackson -Madison County General Hospital, Jackson General, at 5:00pm. After being admitted they began to do several tests, first was blood work, then urine, then X-ray's, next came two Ct's with Contrast Dye - Stomach and pelvis this seemed to just take forever. Finally at about 2:00am in the morning the Doctor came in and started to stare at me, next my wife and then she looked back at me again, the silence was making me nervous. Finally after an eternity of her blank stare shes says, your gallbladder isn't whats wrong with you, I don't know any other way to tell you this than to come straight out with it. You've got Cancer! And your eat up with it. You need to see an oncologist tomorrow! then more blank stares back and forth between me and Dawn. I didn't know what to say or what to think. I sat up quickly and looked straight in her eye's and said Now just hold on a second. What are you telling me?. She started to precede to reed the radiologist report and give me so many details it seemed as if she just rambled on and on and finally I said Stop. I'll be back. Where are you going she asked. To Smoke I said. You can't do that this is a no smoking hospital. I said I'll be back and I headed for the parking lot. Found the car and sat down and lit up a cigarette. My son came outside and sat down with me and it wasn't long after that that Brooke, my Daughter and her husband Patrick showed up and sat with us. In another hour or so after talking with a second doctor about Pain medication and management we headed home for the hour and a half drive back to Parsons.

Don't seem to have regular bowel movements either. Dawns insisting I see a doctor and to quite plain the has been a few nights that the pain was so bad that I almost had her take me to the hospital. If things don't get better in a week I'm going to see a doctor.
